22 years ago on this date, I became a Mrs. I said, "I do for better or for worse". There have been plenty of "worse" as there are in all honest marriages. But the "better" for sure outnumber the "worse".
We've come a long way in 22 years. We started out as a vet wanna-be and an artist. Then we were business owner and overwhelmed mother and homeschool teacher of gobs of kids and trying to build a house in our "free time" (totally amazing our marriage survived that period). 22 years later, we are now "missionaries" (I rather cringe at using that word), working together daily. The very thing I was so looking forward to before moving here was being able to be with my man all day long. To be honest, we people that live like that...well, it's not as glorious as it's pictured in our heads. I still prefer it over our previous circumstances. But sometimes, you just need your space. :)
What's our secret for 22 years "juntos" (hooked up)? Weekly date nights. It's that simple. It is absolutely vital to our marriage. If we didn't take these nights, I would have no idea what's going on in that head of his. He does share more now since we see each other more. But the real Britt, he shows up on date nights. And I get to hear things that no one else hears.
If you've ever seen "Pride and Prejudice" (my fave movie ever), I'm reminded of the scene where Lizzie is trying to explain to her papa why she's to all their surprise changed her mind about Mr. Darcy. Why she wants to marry him. "We're so similar." Well, Britt and I are as well. But yet we are as opposite as can be at the same time. Somehow that works. But really, it's not even the date nights that keep us together. It's our Rock. And He's what makes us "so similar". And keeps us "juntos".
Love ya forever, Britt Harman.
Wherever you go, I will go. Wherever you live, I will live. Your people will become my people, and your God will become my God. Wherever you die, I will die - and there I will be buried.
