Do you LOVE sunshine?

I think if I never knew there was God, I would worship the sun. I can't think of a single thing bad about that huge ball of fire.

This morning, I attended a mini-ladies retreat in which I was asked to speak on a subject close to my heart…nutrition. But before we got started on that topic, we were asked a few questions. One of them was…“Would you rather go to the beach or the snowy mountains.” Maybe because it’s winter and most everyone is ready for spring, 80% of the attendees chose beach as their preferred destination. I, of course, would never choose anything snow over beach. EVER. And to think, my first ever experience of seeing the beach and falling in love with it was not until I was the ripe old age of seventeen. Then, I fell for it. Hard. I went to college where the beach was but a 20 minute drive. I was good at finding ways as often as possible to get to my beloved beach. It’s funny. I don't LOVE the water itself. Although, I do enjoy it far more than snow. The sand could be a turn-off in that it’s messy, dirty and leaves it’s trail in the least favorable places…regardless if a shower has or has not been taken. BUT, in that where there is good sand, 95% (don't quote me on that estimation…I pulled it out of my imagination and the way I perceive the beach) of the time there is sunshine, I can disregard the inconveniences of the sand…ALWAYS.

When you see our house, one of the first things you notice are all the windows. Since my husband LOVES the sun also, and we built and designed our own house, we incorporated as many windows as we could afford at that time. And does it ever make a difference in the temperature of our house. On gray days in the winter our house is down right too cold for comfort. But on sunny days, everyone finds a window to sit in and bask in it’s warmth. In the summer, our house can feel like an oven very quickly. But we can handle a little heat, knowing that we prefer it much over the discomfort of a cold house.

Since my husband and I started our relationship often on a beach setting, it is not incidental that we started and have continued the tradition of yearly visiting what has now become our favorite beach and vacation spot…Fort Morgan, Alabama. You can ask any one of my kids where would be their first choice of a place to go and I can guarantee you Fort Morgan would be their answer. So we have obviously passed on our intense appreciation of that big ball of fire to our children.
