I believe in Miracles. Do you?

When I was a sophomore in college, I had this special year of roommates. Nobody could ever believe that the four of us were roomed together. It was a year that knit us together and bonded us for life. With my bunkmate, Bryn, there was an extra special bond. It might have been the night I got a pinched nerve in my back and she laid in bed with me and held my hand until the pain killers took effect...seemed like all night. She eased my pain by the touch of her hand. I've never forgotten it. It's been twenty-four years since that long night.

Saturday, God made it possible to be reunited so I could go "hold her hand". I went with the intention of encouraging her and make her laugh. I believe we cried much more than we laughed. But we managed. And I left that night likely way more encouraged by her than she by me.

You see, my Brynnie has been holding her fifteen-year-old son's hand, not leaving his side for two-n-a-half years. He's been so sick. So brave. When I walked in their house, he gave me a hug and a big smile. I haven't seen him for 14 years. But I've prayed for him every day. It wears on a mom in an awful way to see her child suffer so. Her eyes are faded, lacking their old sparkle. It makes me sad.

But there's hope. We both believe. It's a very long time to believe and stay believing. But He is faithful and we know this to the core of our being. Bryn would do anything for her child. I nearly say anybody would. But I remember those...in my other world...those who wouldn't do anything for their child. But that's another blog.

Have you ever witnessed a miracle? A true live miracle? You know...the only kind...something that only God can do. Have you ever known someone dying...been given the death sentence...then...a miracle...completely unexplainably healed? Bryn believes, and I'm convinced as well that Carson will be healed just like that. It's going to leave people (doctors) completely baffled. The only explanation will be that God did it. How awesome will that be?

Do you believe that God still does miracles? We live in a culture with skeptics and critics. So many lose hope. We give up. The wait gets too long. Do you need a miracle in your life? Have you lost hope? I encourage you to believe. To believe that not only can He, but He will do a miracle in your life. Just believe.

You can bet when God does this miracle with Carson, the whole world will know. I will be shouting it from the mountain tops. Literally...since...well, you know...I live in the mountain tops.

I want to hear your miracles too.

  1. I'm one of the ones who isn't sure. Conservative Christianity says God doesn't work that way anymore but I'm wondering if they're wrong.
